Sony has an up hill battle this time around. Most feel its possible they can get the lead but not until 2009 or 2010 when games start to use the Cell that was announced in 2005. But if that pans out to be true. By that time (5 years) there will be new consoles launching on the market that will be more powerful than anything created or imagined now. Sony created a console to compete for 10 years. But Tech changes rapidly and no one knows what type of tech will be available by the time dev...

Analyst Mike Wallace from UBS Securities has made the prediction that Sony's Playstation 3 will out sell Microsoft's Xbox 360 in 2009.
Mr. Wallace is hopes that Sony will play with 7 million PS3s sold with the Xbox 360 maintaining a lead of 10 million units sold in 2007. He also predicts the Revolution at a distant third place of 3 million units sold. By 2009 however he believes that Sony could barely take the lead. This was with PS3 launching in Spring as announced.

Sony has announced that all PS3 titles will be required to release on Blu-Ray discs in order to assist in their anti-piracy initiatives.
This will not negatively impact DVD Movie playback or Backwards compatability.

This will undoubtably result in higher costs for game disc production for the first year or two but should help hold off the rampant piracy that has occured on the PS2 and PS1.

Scott Miller (creator of Duke Nukem and Max Payne) also offers his predictions on the next generation console war. He sees the Xbox 360 and PS3 to be about equal in market share and the Revolution to fall far short of both Sony and Microsoft. He attributes Microsoft’s gain to Xbox Live and their early start in the market.

In general, both Microsoft and Sony will have to develop exclusive titles internally this time around. The majors, including Electronic Arts (ERTS ) and Activision, say they are loath to sign exclusive deals, instead opting to release games simultaneously across platforms to maximize sales.

And it's not like the early days, when top hits like Super Mario Brothers or Sonic the Hedgehog sold exclusively for the Nintendo or Sega system, and provided compelling reasons to buy one ...

What about the other killer app, Grand Theft Auto?
Publisher Take-Two Interactive (TTWO ) announced its plans for the next installment in this series. Take-Two will release the next Grand Theft Auto on both new platforms with the 360 version coming first and with exlusive content, rather than exclusively for PlayStation. That could effectively kill Sony's ability to drive console sales with that title, something it did with the Grand Theft Auto games for the PlayStation 2.

The Xbox360 was unveiled with 18 titles, some of them exclusive to the console (see BW Online, 1/23/06, "Which Games Make the Cut"). What big games can we be looking forward to in 2006?
Halo 3, for one. Microsoft hasn't announced many details, but it's widely rumored that the next installment in the blockbuster franchise will be timed to compete with the PlayStation 3 launch.

So that means in 4 years we will get ps3 games that are worth the purchase and by that time the 360 will be on its 5th year and ready to launch the xbox 720. The question is can an old ps3 in 5 years compete with a new xbox720 with how rapidly technology changes year after year. Sony messed up big time. "your buying the ps3's potential"...OKAY...We want games. We want great games NOW. Not in 5 years. lol

While he states his game will take advantage of the chip's multiple processors, he admits it isn't easy. "It's very much a lot of fumbling around at this point," and a lot of "trial and error," to get something to work on the PS 3, says James Kosta, chief architect for BattleBorne Entertainment, a studio developing a game for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. "It could take three or four generations of games (i.e., years) before we see anything taking advantage...

What's the deal with "Cell," the chip that powers the PlayStation 3? Will it really be able to handle more powerful games than the Xbox 360?
The Cell chip is radically different from any chip before it. But developers who are working on PlayStation 3 games tell BusinessWeek Online that PlayStation 3 games won't be all that different from Xbox 360 titles

Don't be angry at Sony Fanboys. Remember you was once in their shoes. Show pitty for them. They haven't figured it out yet. Thats why I don't call them names. Its not their fault. Sony is good at what they do. When they spend their money to get a ps3 and they pop the game in that they spent 80 dollars for...they will then feel what you feel now. Anger. The only thing is you figured it out before you waisted your money. Remember...feel pitty for Gametime and Nj1307....And just be than...

sony would like you to believe That Microsoft rushed out the 360. Not true. The xbox 360 and the ps3 were both done hardware at E3 2005. Remember...Sony ps3 was suppose to launch 3 months after the 360 in the first quarter 2006. 360 got to the market sooner because Microsoft chose proven hardware rather than unproven. Its really that simple. Dvd9 is proven and reliable. blu ray is unproven and doesn't improve games. Holding more data means nothing if it streams off at 2x speed rather than 12x...

As we all know by now, the PS3 is much larger than the original Xbox.

Theseis for the PS3 has been canned. The game will still be released on PC and Xbox 360. This raises the question, will the PS3 only receive the big budget franchises?

And that quote is from? lol...oh thats right, its from NJ1307 himself. Now thats credible. lol....To sell 5 million consoles at 400 dollars a pop in 6 months and with major shortages. If thats a failure...I bet sony wishes they could have that same type of failure. lol...I bet sony wishes they could some day sell 4.5 games per console as did xbox 360. Amazing the things you say as if we don't all know you are a liar with no links. lol....

I'm sorry. These aren't my quotes. These are quotes from developers. I search every day for good things about the ps3. Please help me Gametime. If you find something good from developers or editors...show it. What I post isn't negative unless you are putting all your faith in one platform. I'm a gamer. I will buy a ps3. I wish someone would say somthing good about it or show some gameplay to get us excited. Its just not there. And to be honest with you. Microsoft did everything ri...

"Not all of the PS3’s overall processing power and memory will be available to games, due to the way resources are allocated. The PS3’s memory banks are split between graphics and system, unlike the Xbox 360's unified memory architecture. Again, good for watching movies, but not necessarily for playing games."

"The glaring weakness of the PlayStation 3 is price, especially when compared to the competition," said the report. "Sony has done very little to justify why the system is worth a premium price for consumers that don't care about raw hardware performance and are not hard-core audio/visual consumers. Unfortunately we believe that represents over 90% of the consumers in the marketplace."
